HISTORY ON OUR DOORSTEP

The Twice Brewed is set amongst some of the most breathtaking scenery in England and stands in the shadows of Steel Rigg - without a doubt one of the most dramatic parts of Hadrian’s Wall. Each mile of the wall is steeped in history, myths, fables and wonder, meaning you'll never be short of things to do and places to explore.
Situated on the B6318 Roman Military Road, midway between Newcastle and Carlisle, the Inn is perfectly located for exploring all the nearby attractions; from the Roman sites of Vindolanda, Housesteads, Milecastle and The Roman Army Museum, to the world-famous Sycamore Gap, The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre and nearby Historic Hexham.
We would be more than happy to organise outings on your behalf ranging from a couple of hours away to a full day, please speak to Reception for further details and tips on planning the perfect excursion.

WALKING
The Twice Brewed Inn is a popular spot to stop for a rest, some refreshment and a bite to eat along the 84 miles of the Hadrian’s Wall Path National Trail, one of the most iconic walks of the British Isles. The popular Pennine Way also passes the Inn as it meanders from Greenhead to Wark. We can organise baggage transfer between stops along the route should you need it, just get in touch with our team and we'll be happy to help.

CYCLING
Hadrians Cycleway (Route 72) passes very close to The Inn; the Route is 174 miles long and follows the Roman Frontiers and the Cumbrian Coastline and offers a spectacular, yet challenging, experience. The recently devised Sandstone Way also passes close to us and through the village of Newbrough.
We can organise bike hire for you should you wish to venture out for a day or two, using The Twice Brewed as your base so please feel free to ask a member of staff for more details.

WALKING TOURS
We work with a number of recommended Tour Guides who can tailor routes and content to suit your personal preferences and abilities. Whether you’re into flora and fauna, mysteries and battles of the Roman Armies, or you simply want to meander along the Wall, we have the perfect activities for you, just ask at reception or contact Kevin Robson or Paul Tait (who we consider to be two of the best guides around) directly.
